How to cite this site
For reporters, students and researchers using a figure from Toronto Up Close.
Suggested credit
- Give the data date. Every page footer shows the day the data was last rebuilt, and how current each source is shows when the City last updated each one.
- Name the City as the source. Each figure links to the City's own page for it. That page is the record, so check it before you publish.
- Reusing our spreadsheets? They are free to reuse under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. See licences and credits.
Police figures
- They are reports made to Toronto Police, not proven crimes. Write "reported" or "reports to police".
- Do not compare them with Statistics Canada's crime figures. Statistics Canada counts differently, so the two do not line up.
- Small numbers jump around by chance. Each police figure here comes with a likely range; quote the range for a small area.
- We never call an area safe or unsafe, and we would ask you not to cite us as saying so.
Questions from the press
- We are happy to explain how a number was worked out.
